Fire Extinguisher P.A.S.S. Technique
Different type of Fire Extinguishers use when Fire is Start. Most fire extinguishers operate using the following P.A.S.S. Technique:
Aim at the base of the fire
Aim low, pointing the extinguisher nozzle (or its horn or hose) at the base of the fire.
NOTE: Do not touch the plastic discharge horn on CO2 extinguishers, it gets very cold and may damage skin.
Squeeze the top handle or lever
This depresses a button that releases the pressurized extinguishing agent in the extinguisher.
Sweep from side to side
Sweep from side to side at the base of the fire until it appears to be out. Start using the extinguisher from a safe distance away, then move forward. Once the fire is out, keep an eye on the area in case it re-ignites, repeat steps 2 – 4.
